The actor Eric Stonestreet, known for his role as Cameron Tucker in the Modern Family series, announced his engagement to his girlfriend Lindsay Schweitzer, 41, last weekend, and this Wednesday he had to defend himself against the teased and criticized for being "too old" to commit to the pediatric nurse after their five-year courtship.
“Apparently a lot of people think I look too old, like a 49-year-old man, to be engaged to my fiancée of almost 42 years,” Stonestreet began. "Look, she can't help that she looks so good at 42 and I can't help that I apparently look like her grandfather, so I fixed it for everyone," he joked along with an image in which he has aged his girlfriend with an image editing program.
The American actor shared the news on Sunday along with a trio of images showing the happy couple and the ring. Plus, Stonestreet showed off his acting chops with three very different emotions in the photo gallery, while Schweitzer was all smiles at the emotional moment.
The couple met in 2016 at Big Slick's charity weekend in Kansas City, and their love affair was publicized by People magazine in 2017. The same year, the performer addressed his love affair with Schweitzer with Host Ellen DeGeneres during an interview on her show. “Your girlfriend is lovely, I met her backstage,” DeGeneres said. "Is a nurse. That's good for you, because you're a hypochondriac," added the comedian. “I am also a big baby. She calms my nerves. I'm a very nervous person," Stonestreet confessed then.
Jesse Tyler Ferguson, who played Mitchell Pritchett, the fictional husband of Stonestreet and who is gay in real life, joked that his co-star was a "gay for hire." Stonestreet, who is an advocate for the LGBT+ community, refused to be photographed alongside former US Senator Rick Santorum, who opposes same-sex marriage.
In 2012, rumors of a romance between Stonestreet and actress Charlize Theron were surprising. The American actor, who in line with his sense of humor has defined himself as "openly heterosexual", was quick to deny their love affair in a comic post on Twitter. “I wish they would stop spreading rumors that Charlize and I are dating. Halle Berry is going to be jealous," she wrote.
Fame came to him in 2009, when he became part of the main cast of the hit Modern Family
In 1999, Stonestreet made his television debut when he appeared in an episode of the series Dharma & Greg. He continued making cameos in American series such as Malcolm in the Middle, ER or The West Wing, as well as participating in several films such as The Island or Ninja Cheerleaders, among others.
Fame came to him in 2009, when he became part of the main cast of the hit Modern Family as the husband of Mitchell Pritchett, for which he won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series in 2010. , and in 2012 he revalidated a second Emmy Award in the same category for the same role.
