Crypto asset investment firm Hivemind and the global high-speed drone racing league, DRL (Drone Racing League), have partnered to enter the world of gaming. Together, they created the company Playground Labs, which will be dedicated to creating virtual games that make it possible to earn money with cryptocurrencies and NFTs (non-fungible tokens).
These types of virtual games are known in the industry as esports play-to-earn or P2E, an English term that means “electronic sports that can be played to earn money”. As the name implies, they allow players who meet the objectives of the games to be rewarded with monetary retribution.

This was confirmed by Sam Peurifoy, the CEO of Playground Labs, who stated that they are excited to "build the infrastructure of the metaverse economy and enable everyone to make real economic utility by playing the games they love."
Rachel Jacobson, the President of DRL, revealed: “Our millions of fans love cryptocurrency, fintech and gaming.” For this reason, together with Hivemind, they decided to develop their first drone video game so that players can earn cryptocurrencies and NFTs. This will work on the Algorand blockchain with DAO protocols.
“Together, we will accelerate the growth of DRL as the first omnichannel sports league, enabling our pilots and fans to compete with drones in the physical, virtual, and metaverse, which will be paramount to all sports leagues going forward” , declared the DRL spokeswoman.
DRL doubles down on drone gaming with cryptocurrency
DRL is not new to the gaming industry. It had already launched virtual tournaments on PlayStation, Xbox, Steam, and Epic Games that simulate real drone racing. Now it doubles its commitment to electronic competitions by also entering the play-to-earn games market.
The company estimated that “the global gaming, cryptocurrency, and drone markets are worth more than $2 trillion,” a figure they believe will continue to rise. That is why they decided to combine these three worlds.
A recent case that also launched a game to earn cryptocurrencies and NFTs is the French fashion house Louis Vuitton. As CriptoNoticias reported, there are more and more options available to players who seek to generate income by playing. This is also demonstrated by Thndr, which has already published its third mobile game to earn bitcoins.
